I finished editing, uploading, and publishing the first two chapters (Vision and Mission, and Strategy) last night, and thiis morning I sent access instructions to a group of reviewers. Most of them were directors of product management at a company where I used to work, but I also have a friend who is a technical writer and another who is a marketer who will be looking over it.
In a sense, I started working on this in February, but I wasn't able to put my foot on the gas until around September when my home office was done. (I had to build an office in our new house because we moved in the spring, so over the summer I got to learn how to do drywall, among other things.)
I reckon it took about 20 hours to write and record these first seven modules, which doesn't sound like much, but I only have two evenings a week to work, and 2-3 hours an evening. I spent two of those weeks in New York City for work, we had holiday shenanigans for two other weeks, and a total of 4 birthdays to celebrate along the way. I also probably spent 20 hours just learning how to use the equipment and software.
If I was working full-time on this, I'd be done in a month, but more likely it'll take 4-6 more months to finish this course.
Still, I'm excited to celebrate this milestone. And I'm really excited to begin work on the next chapters. I have figured out my audio and color grade settings so they're quick to apply now, and I figured out titles, layering in slides, and how I want to cut and blend segments when I stumble and need to edit out long pauses of me thinking and rewriting in my head. I've gotten into a good flow, and who knows, maybe future modules will be faster to write.
I'm still on holiday until January 2nd, and I'll hopefully get another couple of modules written before then. And maybe I'll keep up with weekly updates here, too.
